“Hire a student” important

Dear Editor,
I agree with Mr. McFadzean’s comments in his letter to the editor in the July 25 issue of the ECA Review titled ‘Taxation destroys jobs’, but I argue that “Hire a Student” programs are an important exception to the rule.
These particular students are taking a summer break from post-secondary institutions, which should help them get a good job upon graduation, but they are not ready for the workplace yet. The Canada Summer Jobs and similar programs are designed to give job experience in the students’ areas of training and to provide a needed community service.
So, no Robert, I haven’t forgotten my Reform roots.
