Highway 27 blocked by semi-truck incident

ECA Review/Submitted

In the early hours of Tues. Jan. 14, Morrin Fire Department received a call regarding a motor vehicle collision on Highway 27, west of the Morrin Corner.

Traffic was rerouted as the highway was shut down from Range Road 20-2 to 20-3.

Drumheller RCMP, Fire and EMS, as well as the Morrin Fire Department and Department of Highways, attended the scene.

They found the semi truck and trailer stretched across the highway horizontally, blocking traffic on either side.

A service company was called in to clear the roadway by removing the products contained inside before tipping the semi upright and moving it off the well-used roadway.

“It was a fully loaded van-trailer with car batteries. There is a substantial amount of clean-up time required for that one,” said Morrin Fire Chief Darcy Davidson.

The driver was taken to hospital and an investigation into the matter is still in progress.
