HEIDECKER, Carol
1948 – 2020

Carol Denise (Homan) Heidecker was born on March 28, 1948 in Coronation, Alta. and passed away on Sun., July 19, 2020 in Coronation at the age of 72 years after a brief battle with cancer, with family by her side.

She was one of four children born to Lester and Ilene Homan of Veteran, Alta.

Carol was raised in Veteran with her siblings: Wayne, her twin brother Ritchie (Rick) and sister Dixie.

Carol met Tom Heidecker, a young ambitious farmer and was married on Nov. 4, 1967 in Veteran.

The two of them spent the early years of their marriage contributing to their farm’s success.

Carol was a housewife who was always cooking for a crew on the farm, as well as helping outside when needed.

On March 6, 1968, Carol and Tom welcomed Lisa Ann into the world. Although Lisa’s time on earth was a short one, she brought a lot of joy and happiness in the four years they had with her.

On Sept. 23, 1970 Denise Marie was born, followed by Kenneth Allan on July 13, 1973 and Jodi Lynn on March 17, 1977.

After many years of being a housewife and mother, Carol decided it was time to do something more, so she went and got a job at the Coronation Hospital in the kitchen.

She enjoyed this job and all the good times she had working with her coworkers for over 15 years.

In 2009, Carol and Tom made the decision to move off the farm and move into town into Carol’s mother’s home, across the street from her daughter Jodi and their family.

Although this was a difficult decision for Tom, for Carol it was the right decision.

She was ready to enjoy life a little more, without the constant struggles of farm life.

She was ready to spend her days golfing, reading, relaxing and enjoying quality time with her children and grandchildren.

Over the years Carol and Tom took many vacations with their family, but once the children had grown they started to go on yearly golf trips with their in-laws, Ron and Kathy Burton.

In 2004 they braved the long flight and went to Australia to see their daughter Denise and her family.

In the winter, many weekends were spent at the Coronation Hockey arena watching her grandsons play hockey, then in the summer months, Carol and Tom could be found sitting in their car outside a ball diamond watching their grandchildren play ball.

Carol developed a passion for watching professional sports on television; she could always be found watching the Calgary Flames and the Toronto Blue Jays and was always up for a friendly bet with family friend, Gerald.

When sports were not on the television she could be found watching the Game Show Network and classic reruns of Archie Bunker which always gave her a good laugh.

Carol will be sadly missed and leaves to mourn her husband, Tom; her daughter Denise (Rob) Mignone of Melbourne, Australia and their children, Paige, Dayna and Ella; her son, Ken (Lisa) Heidecker of Coronation, Alta. and their children Ashlyn and Owen; and her daughter, Jodi (Blaine) Shipton of Coronation, Alta. and their children Keaton, Hayden and Nash.

She is also survived by her brothers, Wayne (Stephanie) Homan, Rick (Yvonne) Homan; her sister Dixie (Ted) McKenzie; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She is predeceased by her parents, Lester and Ilene Homan; her father and mother-in-law, Albert and Marjorie Heidecker; her daughter, Lisa Ann; her uncles, Herb Kary, Buster Molohon, Aunt Laura Kary; and her brother-in-law, Ron Burton.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date with close family and friends.

If friends so desire, donations can be made in Carol’s memory to the Coronation Hospital Foundation c/o Home Away From Home Rooms or the Haneyville Cemetery Society.

Condolences may be sent or viewed at www.parklandfuneralhome.com. Arrangements in care of Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, 6287 – 67 A Street (Taylor Drive), Red Deer. 403.340.4040.
