The inaugural Hardisty Hills Trail Run was held June 18, 19, 20, as a virtual event that saw 57 participants. Virtual meant, a participant could run it anytime during within a time frame, but you must time and GPS yourself, as proof that you followed the right course.
Each runner had to submit their results to organizer Brittany MacMillan via screenshot of their GPS app.
There were four different events to choose from: Kids event from age 2 – 12 which was a 1.5 km course, a 5 km walk, 5 km run, and a 10 km run.
These longer courses took racers along the very scenic Battle River Valley and then all the way to Hardisty Lake and Hardisty Golf Course to enjoy more of the rolling hills and spectacular viewpoints.
The event had 57 racers total.
In 2019, MacMillan along with Remedy Oilfield and local volunteers created about 12 km worth of combined new trails to add to approximately three kilometres of existing trails.
“The trails are grass, some are still a bit stumpy but they’re in excellent shape for hiking, nordic poling, trail running, mountain biking, and snowshoeing,” said MacMillan.
“I started this project because I love trail running and have always known Hardisty has the best scenery and great challenging hills – I’m really proud that I can finally show everyone that!
I hope everyone gets a chance to come out and see the Hardisty trails this summer!”
