Hanna 4-H Clubs update

Written by Submitted

In February the Dry Land Multi-Club went on a two day clipping workshop, presented by Mike Early. At this workshop members got their steers and heifers ready for the Oyen Beef Congress. It also gave members a chance to break-in their animals.
On May 20, three members took their steers to Oyen for the Jack Pot Steer Show where they placed third, fourth and fifth.
On May 21, Brody Tattrie, Jaxen Tattrie, Dixon Tattrie, Kate Nelson and Ainsley Nelson brought their steers to the Carcass Calfs Live Evaluation. Since then their steers have gone to slaughter and on May 29 in Drumheller members will go to see their grated carcasses. This is done to show members what an actual carcass looks like without its hide.
The Market Steer Project members are Austin Andrew, Clayton Andrew, Kate Nelson, Spencer MacMillan, Sarah MacMillan, Jace Powell and Katie MacPherson.  Members in the Market Steer Project will acquire an understanding of the production and management side of the beef cattle industry through the hands-on work they will do with their project animal.
