The Hand Hills Lake Community Club was named the fourth $50,000 winner in UFA’s Rural from the Roots Up – Get ‘n’ Give Contest at a celebration in Spruce View, AB on February 20, 2014.
“Hand Hills was a winner in our eyes because they are truly rural and the project impacts generations of people. The stampede has a deep history and their community centre supports many different groups,” said Mitch Hetu, Spruce View Agricultural Society.
The community will use the prize money to realize their long-standing plans for a kitchen addition to their present community club.
“This contest helps create connections between rural communities that embrace the co-operative spirit. It’s about people helping people,” said Bob Nelson, President and CEO, UFA Co-operative Limited. “We’re investing in a clubhouse project, which makes a big impact in the lives of more than 3,000 people in the rural area of Hand Hills. We couldn’t be more excited for them.”
UFA is awarding five prizes of $50,000 – a total of $250,000 – to projects that support and enrich rural communities. Entries will continue to be accepted for the final $50,000 prize until March 21, 2014.
Rural community groups that are located within 200 kilometers of a UFA Farm and Ranch Supply store or Petroleum Agency are encouraged to enter.
