Gun Control?—How about some gang control?

It never ceases to amaze me that when the liberals are confronted with the issue of gun violence their answer is to put in more control on the guns used by law-abiding citizens.

Of course, they never try to explain how that will stop criminal gangs from shooting at each other with illegal guns.

All of this nonsense is aimed at a very ignorant urban population.

These people just don’t seem to understand the difference between people who own and use legal guns and criminals who own and use guns obtained by illegal means.

Liberals seem to have convinced a high percentage of these people that if you remove guns from law-abiding people, the criminals will have fewer guns at their disposal to shoot at each other.

It just doesn’t work that way.

In fact, criminals just love the idea of removing guns from law-abiding citizens. There is less risk of them getting shot.

What really irks me is Trudeau and his government’s refusal to deal with the real problem.

The real problem is the criminal gangs, not their guns.

In my opinion, the laws in this country treat these criminal gangs with kid gloves.

If the police do arrest a gang member for criminal activity they may be locked up for a day or two and then they appear in court for a bail hearing and I think about 99 per cent of the time they are awarded bail with conditions and told when to appear in court again.

This does not deter them from continuing the activity they were involved in before they were arrested.

The conditions are ignored. I firmly believe that they just consider this to be an inconvenience and part of the cost of doing business.

The way the courts deal with these criminals and the present bail system, it is just a revolving door.

Seems to me if the law was really serious about stopping a lot of this drug crime that gangs are involved in, they would not allow someone hauled into court a second time to be allowed back on the street.

Leave them locked up until their trial.

If Trudeau and his progressive liberals were really serious about stopping gun violence they would pass laws that would outlaw gangs and their activity.

It is time for the government to get serious about gangs. It is gangs that need to be controlled not guns.

Criminal gangs should be outlawed and dismantled and anyone found to be involved with a gang should be arrested and locked up without bail until the trial.

I know this would sound radical and to liberals, it is because they believe in coddling criminals, however, anything short of this will not put a stop to this activity.

There, of course, would be a hue and cry about infringing on their charter of rights and that it would be inhumane treatment and all the rest of that sort of thing.

Well, what about the charter rights of innocent victims?

The courts have screwed up this charter to the point where it is only of a benefit to criminals and special interest groups.

It seems to totally ignore the rights of ordinary citizens. In my mind when the action of a criminal tramp on the rights of a law-abiding citizen, the criminal should no longer be protected by the charter.

The way it seems to work now is that the rights of the perpetrator take precedence over that of the victim.

Trudeau’s gun control solution is simplistic.

If he wants to get rid of gun violence on the street he has to get rid of the gangs and that would require laws with real teeth.

He hasn’t the guts to do it and while Harper did put in tougher laws they did not go anywhere near far enough to solve the problem either.
