Grout, David Andrew

David Andrew Grout

February 27, 1948 – January 16, 2014

David Andrew Grout passed away on Thursday, January 16, 2014 at Our Lady of the Rosary Hospital, Castor, AB at the age of 65 years. David was born the youngest of four sons to Andrew and Viola Grout in Star City, Saskatchewan. He was raised on the farm and took his schooling in town.

He graduated from High School in 1966 and from the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor of Commerce in 1970.

David paid his way through university by working during the summers as a cook’s helper with a Canadian National Railway (CNR) work train. After graduation he worked for a time in real estate and with an accounting firm, then obtained his certification in Local Government Administration and began a 15 year career in administration. He worked in Oxbow, Moosomin and Kindersley, SK.  He operated his own SGI insurance office in Biggar, SK until 1995 when he moved his family to Creston, BC. The disease which finally took his life was evident in the late 80’s and forced him out of the work force by late ’96.

In 1979 David married Lois Little and to this union was added two children: Karissa (Brian Weeks) and Jeffrey (Dakota Melin). David’s children and grandchildren were the joy of his life and he was so proud of all their accomplishments. The day that he went into the hospital we had driven to Castor to see the granddaughters in their Sunday School Christmas program.

David was a part of an active toastmasters club while living in Biggar, which he enjoyed. Since retiring to Coronation he joined the Seniors group and disked with them every week. He looked forward to Tuesday evening with great anticipation and enjoyed his game and his friends.

David was a faithful attendee of church for many years, serving on the Board of Kindersley Alliance and Biggar Associated Gospel churches. He was involved in the Creston Baptist Church financial department. He regularly attended Wednesday evening prayer time and read his Bible daily. David accepted Christ as his savior in 1977 and was baptised in 1980.

David enjoyed music and played guitar for his own enjoyment. He had a great interest in “the markets” and watched Business News Network (BNN) daily. He was a faithful fan of the Roughriders and watched all major sports events, particularly football and curling.

David is survived by his wife Lois of Coronation; two children, his daughter, Karissa (Brian) Weeks of Castor, AB and their children, Grace, Jessie and Colbie and his son, Jeffrey (Dakota) Grout of Leross, SK and their children Jacob and Declan; three brothers, Edward (Kathleen) Grout of St. Catharines, ON, Wesley (Virginia) Grout of Strathmore, AB and Jim (Pat) Grout of Wetaskiwin, AB; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends. David was predeceased by his parents Arthur and Viola Grout.

A funeral service to celebrate David’s life was held at the Coronation Evangelical Free Church on Friday, January 24, 2014 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Terry Belcourt officiating.

As an expression of sympathy and in loving memory of David, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice in care of Coronation Funeral Home, Box 358 Coronation, Alberta TOC 1CO, who have been entrusted with the care and funeral arrangements. 403.578.2928.
