Greatest honour of entire life

Dear friends,
It has been one of the greatest honour and privileges of my life, to have served this community as mayor for the past three terms.
During my tenure as mayor, I had the pleasure to meet many wonderful people who have invested themselves in our community.
Our community is blessed to have a great number of caring individuals that serve as treasured volunteers. Whether they are members of one of our many notable organizations, event organizers, or assisting with someone in need, I applaud their individual efforts and commitment in making Stettler a better place to live.
The greatest resource our community has is our people, the individuals who make up our community, that make Stettler incredibly special – and that is what I am most proud of.
I have immensely enjoyed all the good people of our community that I have met, as well as the many friends and relationships I have made as Mayor. Being part of this community, attending fundraisers, business openings and other special events – it has all been very rewarding and humbling and I thank you for the opportunity.
The previous two councils, as well as the current one, have worked tirelessly along with Town Administration to advance our community, and to set a strong foundation for our tomorrow.
The Town of Stettler is and has always been about serving our community’s greatest needs. Our Mission Statement states that we strive to provide a high quality of life for our residents and visitors through the delivery of effective, efficient and affordable services that are socially and environmentally responsible.
I am confident that under the direction of council, working together with the leadership of our CAO, Greg Switenky, the Senior Management Team, and all of the talented staff within the organization, the Town of Stettler will continue to work in unison to achieve this goal.
The provision and delivery of basic municipal services is the core foundation upon which everything else can be achieved.
You, the residents of Stettler, are fortunate to have a remarkable team of “behind the scenes” dedicated professionals working for you at the Town.
I am thankful to have had the opportunity to contribute along with so many hard working, caring, fair-minded and committed individuals.
Most importantly I leave with many lifelong friendships in place. It is with sincere appreciation that I thank them for the time, effort and passion that they have invested in making Stettler a great place to live, work and play.
Stettler is our home and I am extremely proud of all the progress we’ve made on an affordable and priority basis. We have a lot, and get a lot of value for what we pay… especially in comparison to other communities our size. I hope you enjoy living in Stettler as much as I do!
To my current team of councillors running again, I wish them the best of luck. I, as well, applaud the persons who have stepped up to allow their names to stand for a position that truly makes a difference. Civic duty is never easy. Setting aside personal opinions and sometimes actions, I know that they will collectively work hard to make a difference for our community.
A special congratulations and thanks to Mayor elect Sean Nolls. May you serve the community with wisdom and compassion!
I am grateful for the friendship and working relationship that I developed with our local MP Kevin Sorensen and thank him for his service.
I also would like to thank our MLA for his continued fight for rural Alberta and those of us that choose to embrace the Alberta Advantage in a rural setting.
I would also like to thank all of the Mayors and Councillors in the surrounding area and Central Alberta.
The Town of Stettler cannot accomplish all of what we do on our own. A big debt of gratitude must go to the whole team at the County of Stettler for their true partnership and collaboration in moving our community forward.
I would like to personally thank Reeve Wayne Nixon and the other councillors along with their administration for their leadership and friendship to myself and our Town.
Please take time to thank the people that protect us like the RCMP, first responders and health care professionals. These hard working people make our community safe and secure.
My duty as Mayor could not have been possible without the strong support of many in and around our community, especially those under my employment in my private life.
I say THANK YOU for the opportunity you have given me, to know and work with you – I am completely humbled by the confidence shown in me, and it has been my absolute pleasure to serve!!!
Lastly, I would like to thank my family for their unwavering support throughout this journey of mine.
It has been an incredible honour serving our community and representing this great Town. It has only served to strengthen my love for our community, province and country.
I wish you all the best. May God bless you and your families, and may God bless Stettler!!!!
Mayor Dick Richards
