Lorna May (McKay) Grainger
May 16 , 1976 – Feb. 19, 2024

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our daughter/step daughter Lorna.

She passed away peacefully on the morning of Feb. 19 in Sutherland Place (Continuing Care Facility) Peace River, Alta. at the age of 47.  She fought her battle with cancer with so much grace, dignity and strength for almost 11 years,  always being courageous and brave for all who loved her.

She was an amazing wife to her husband Chris (married 14 years),  the proudest, most loving Mom ever to Anna and Emily and a great stepmom to Alyssa and Cole. A wonderful daughter/stepdaughter to Gordon and Colleen as well as a great sister to Nathan and sister-in-law to Jody, a caring and proud aunt to Kayla.

Lorna was born in Lacombe, Alta. to parents Gordon McKay and Lydia Wildeman.  She spent her childhood in several locations throughout Alberta.  She was active in many activities growing up, between her Dad’s and Mom’s homes which included swimming, 4-H, choral singing, Brownies, and baseball to name a few.

When with her Dad and Colleen we would spend a lot of our summers travelling throughout Alberta into B.C., making a few trips into the States, camping as well as other trips. She enjoyed the time spent with all her grandparents as well as aunts, uncles and cousins.

She graduated high school in Mayerthorpe, Alta. in 1994 and went on to take the education program which she started in Red Deer before transferring to the U of A where she finished her Bachelor of Education in 1998.  Thus began a career that she enjoyed and excelled at until she was no longer able to work due to her cancer.

During her career in education, she worked as a teacher, principal, special education coordinator, supervisor of student services and manager of student services.

She was active in whichever community she lived. She was involved in ringette, soccer, dance, horse riding, gymnastics and other activities her kids were in;  volunteering her time to each as needed.

As a family they continued to enjoy camping and holidays to B.C.

She had many hobbies as well, some of which included needle point, crocheting, knitting, and gardening, especially her flower garden.  She loved time spent with her family and her many friends.

Lorna will be forever missed by her husband Chris,  daughters Anna and Emily, her step-children Alyssa and Cole.  Her dad Gordon, her step-mom Colleen, her brother Nathan and his wife Jody as well as their daughter Kayla.

Also her mother-in-law Mickey (Steve), father-in-law Ken and her brother-in-law Craig (Amber) and sister-in-law Amy (Wayne).  Her step-dad Reinder Stad as well as her step-brothers and their families.

Also Aunt Lois (Terry), Aunt Linda.  Aunt Loretta (Victor), Aunt Bonnie, Aunt Rosina (Harvey), Uncle Fred ( Pat), Uncle Robert (Kathy), Uncle Charlie (Donnalee), Aunt Armella (Brad).  Aunt Cindy (Kelly), Uncle Brian, Aunt Doreen, Aunt Connie, Uncle Dale (Donna).

Lorna was predeceased by her mom, Lydia (Wildeman) Stad in 2016,  each of her grandparents,  as well as numerous aunts and uncles and other family members.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Northwest Funeral Chapel Ltd. Valleyview, Alta. entrusted with arrangements.

She will be missed by all of us.

Rest in peace DEAR LORNA.
