After a long life, Lila Gibson passed away peacefully on Thurs. April 28, 2022, just before her 92nd birthday.
Lila was born on May 10, 1930, in Pontiex, Sask. She was the oldest of nine children born to Alex and Fatima (Fay) Himour.
After losing her father at the young age of 19, Lila took on the role of helping raise her siblings who she often complained didn’t listen very well.
She met David Lynwood Gibson at the diner where she worked and he swept her off her feet, resulting in 50 plus years of marriage. They started their family in Saskatchewan where both of their daughters were born.
They eventually settled in Alberta at the farm in the Great Bend area, amongst all the Bonham families, where both their sons were born. They raised four kids, who went on to provide them with nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Lila had a booming laugh that filled a room. She loved travelling, curling, playing cards and spending time with her grandchildren.
One thing she wasn’t good at was sitting still, often nicknamed the Tasmanian Devil by her children.
Lila was a member of the local Order of Royal Purple, Great Bend Ladies Aid and Delburne Curling Club. She was always cleaning, baking, feeding you, gardening, knitting, adding more food to your plate (yes, feeding you again) and making sure everyone was taken care of.
We have fond memories of the camping trips, picnics and family gatherings she organized that always included a huge hug and a big, fat, wet kiss.
On behalf of her kids, Martella (Jim) Boulton, Carlotta (Rob) Gibson, David (Teresa) Gibson, Lance (Gloria) Gibson, grandchildren and surviving sister Mona, a celebration of life picnic will be announced at a later date.
Cremation entrusted to Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, Red Deer, Alta. If desired, memorial donations in Lila’s honour may be made directly to a charity of the donor’s choice.
