Gathering of the Clans Highland Festival

Clans, kilts and killer dance moves: A healthy variety of plaid graced the Wild Rose Co-op Recreation Centre in Sedgewick, Alta. on Sat. Aug. 24. The second annual Gathering of the Clans Highland Festival drew hoards of visitors from all over thanks to the initiative of the Flagstaff Scottish Club. Opening Ceremonies had the Battle River Pipes and Drums group perform four unique songs after only eight months to practice. Entertainers, dancers and Scottish highland games kept the energy up throughout the one-day event. Above: Ollie Henderson, front and Arianna Blanchette continue the traditional sword dance that was once used to predict a soldiers outcome in battle. Touching a sword meant they would be injured or worse but if they did not they would come out unscathed. ECA Review/T.Huxley
