Morasch

Dora Edna Morasch (Strome) passed away Jan. 5, 2020 at the age of 91 years, 7 months.

Dora was born May 17, 1928 to parents Milton and Pearl Strome.

She was the seventh of 14 children and grew up on the family farm north of Castor.

Dora completed Grade 9 at Beaverdale School.

With little opportunity for further education, she worked as a housekeeper and babysitter in various homes.

On Oct. 17, 1948 Dora married the love of her life, Dan Morasch.

The newlyweds took over the Morasch homestead, five miles northeast of Castor.

Dora devoted her life to farming with Dan and together, they raised their three daughters: Carolin, Kay “Katie” and Linda.

Family and friends all knew Dora as a homemaker who loved cooking, baking, gardening, berry picking and sewing.

Like most farm wives, she also helped with milking cows, feeding pigs and raising chickens.

After 33 years on the Morasch farm, Dan and Dora retired in Their door was always open, and many Castor and Halkirk friends enjoyed coffee with them.

Dora continued floor curling and quickly became part of the Halkirk Senior She enjoyed camping with her family and spending time with her grandkids and great-grandkids.

Visits often included a board game or outside activities.

Everyone, young and old, joined in the fun.

Anyone who knew Dora knows that church was always important to her. Her faith provided her with a strong foundation for life.

The last part of her journey meant a new beginning at age 90 when she chose to move to Stettler to be closer to her family.

Dora lived her life simply, honestly and with great enthusiasm.

She had an infectious smile, warm hug and a kind word for everyone she met.
