The Easter Bunny brought bullets, not eggs, to 25 boys and girls at the annual Trochu Rifle and Pistol Association’s Easter Kids Shoot at the Community Hall Mon. April 18.

Organizer and Association President Ward Beeton, who participated in the annual event as a child in the 80s, said the entire evening, from a Ken MacLean safety lecture and demonstration, refreshments, and a competitive shoot with rifles and ammunition, were available at no charge.

Divided into three age groups from 10 to 16, the shooters, some of whom had never fired a rifle, competed for bragging rights and medallion-bedecked ribbons.

The association, active since 1958 and Alberta’s oldest firearms club, operates the indoor range in the Trochu Community Center and an outdoor range east of town near the Tolman Bridge. In addition to recreation shooting, the association makes its facilities available as a safety training center for the public, RCMP and other agencies.
