Our 4-H club has been very busy this year.
In February, our club had a 3-day clipping clinic and everyone got to wash and clip their calves, and on the last day of the weekend we had a mini mock show.
Our club all got to go skiing in Elk Water and everyone had a blast. There was also a District Curling event in February. This event was made to help 4-Hers make friends with other 4-H members from other clubs.
In March, our club had public speaking. Several of our members went on to Districts and Regionals.
We had a tour of Primrose Dairy farm and saw the robotic milking machines and all the calf barns. After the tour, we all got milk and cookies.
In April, we had a judging workshop at Powell’s that taught everyone how to judge animals at the Show and Sale. This was for all the members in the district.
In May, we also had highway clean-up and all 4-H members were encouraged to participate. We had a mock show and a carcass evaluation workshop that taught everybody how to evaluate carcass animals. After the mock show we had a barbeque.
Our District Show and Sale is on June 10 in Youngstown and we have a lot happening throughout the day.
This year we are encouraging past 4H members and leaders to attend our Show and Sale to help celebrate 100 years of 4-H in Alberta.
As a tribute to our 4H history we have organized “A Walk Down Memory Lane”.
We are trying to get past 4-H memorabilia gathered to put on display for everyone to see on Show and Sale day. We are looking for any items from past 4-H clubs including books, pictures, clothing, etc. This includes any club: example horse clubs, cooking clubs, sewing clubs, photography clubs ,etc.
For more information, please contact Crista Viste at 403-566-2621.
We will also have some items for sale and some silent auction items for people to bid on.
This year for Show and Sale we have added a few new classes to encourage 4-H alumni to participate. One of those classes is “Alumni Showmanship” where we want 4-H alumni to show a 4-H member’s calf.
For more information on alumni involvement contact Dianne Nelson at 403- 779-2470.
We hope to see everyone at Show and Sale in Youngstown on June 10, our show starts at 10 a.m.
