Dorothy Schnell had a very special birthday on Jan. 21, 2021.

The whole community came out to celebrate Schnell as she celebrated her 100th birthday.

When speaking with the ECA Review, she noted she had a wonderful time and that there were almost too many vehicles to count during the public drive-by where people could wave from their vehicles.

She also received 100 different coloured roses to celebrate the big occasion.

Schnell grew up south of Fleet, Alta. and went to school there.

She farmed with her husband for several years and raised children before moving to the Paintearth Lodge in Castor 12 years ago.

“It’s a really good life,” she said.

She enjoys reading as her favourite pastime.

Back in the day, Schnell remembers a time when Model T Fords were common and remarked at how electronics have played a part in modern-day life with everyone having a cell phone in their pocket now.

When asked what her secret tip to living a long life was, she said to “work hard and hang in there.”
