Norman Stanley Deering of Rumsey, Alta. passed away peacefully at home on Feb. 6, 2022 at the age of 83 years old.

Norman was born at home on the family’s homestead of Irvine, Alta. The Deering family moved to the Rumsey area in 1955 where Norman farmed with his father August and his older brother James.

On April 9, 1966, Norman married the love of his life, Elsie Maureen Sinclair. They raised three children together: Rhonda, Sheldon and Dawn.

Norman’s biggest love of his life was for his family. Norman’s passions, his zest for life were farming, rodeos, music and animals.

He looked forward to spending quality time with friends, visiting with neighbours over coffee and playing music.

Norman was a man of few words, had a great sense of humour and quick wit, lover of life and a pillar of strength. He wouldn’t want people to be upset and dwell – “Onward and forward” was his motto.

Norman is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Elsie; children: Rhonda Deering, Sheldon Deering and Dawn (Shayne) Reid; grandchildren: Raine, Jaide (Dwayne), Wyatt (Claudia), Cole, Aidan and Ava; and great-grandchildren: Daxon, Emily, Liam, Bella and AJ.

Also siblings: Ed Larson, Jim (Marj), Betty, Diane (Allan), Brenda (Mike), Anne, Tom, Ed, Bill (Dar) as well as numerous nephews, nieces, many extended family and very close friends.

Norman was predeceased by parents August and Lizzie Deering; sister Clara Jane Larson; parents-in-law Lawrence and Betty Sinclair; brothers-in-law: Raymond Marshall, Bob Fraser and Austin Fraser; sisters-in-law Norma Fraser and Debbie Sinclair; nephews Neal Marshall and Thomas Fraser.

Norman wished for everyone at this time to have a drink on him to celebrate the moments and memories of him close. Keep the music playing!!

He will be forever missed by many but he will be in our hearts forever.

There will be a Celebration of Life held at a later date.
