The Castor Crush U14 C girls softball team defeated the favoured Bonnyville Angels 17 –12 to take the gold medal game in Vermilion, Alta. on Thurs. July 4.

The Crush recently hosted the U14 Girls Provincial tournament on Canada Day weekend and due to poor weather, the final gold medal match was cancelled and rescheduled to take place in Vermilion, half way between Castor and Bonnyville.

“The girls never gave up,” said Crush Coach Rena Stewart. “We were down seven to zero after one inning but they just dug deep and rallied. These young ladies are very hard on themselves but truly support each other. I think this is what makes them unique as well as champions.”

The Crush had won two years ago in the Stettler U14 Girls C championships, and are happy to be back on top.

“The girls won their league championships this year and had only lost two games all year,” said Coach Stewart.

Stewart added that the girls are pleased with their new title. “They are so very happy and proud of this win and rightfully so. The girls really knocked it out of the park!”
