It is with great sadness that we report yet another loss linked to COVID-19.
Twenty-year-old Courtany Mckay passed away on Nov. 8, 2021.
A little-known and under-diagnosed symptom in which a blood clot forms in the lung of an infected person is what took her young life so unexpectedly.
Just when Mckay was starting to feel better after her COVID diagnosis, it seems that a blood clot had formed in her lung.
While she and her immediate family were watching a movie, she had trouble breathing.
It seemed like something was terribly wrong, and when she was urged to go to the hospital, she finally agreed.
Just as they were leaving, she dropped.
She had CPR performed by her family and a neighbour, and when paramedics arrived they too performed CPR, but to no avail.
Mckay was a very compassionate person who loved animals through and through as well as gaming, reading and drawing.
She aspired to become a veterinarian.
She never let anyone or anything bring her down or stop her from doing what she loved to do most.
Mckay had many friends before she passed away, and they were as devastated as her family members.
Losing someone so unexpectedly comes as a shock, especially to small towns like Metiskow that Court called home.
It was so sudden; it seemed like the whole world stopped when it all happened,” said Naomi Thomas, a close friend.
Although she lived a short life, Mckay made it great with her compassionate and kind personality.
”Court was an amazing ray of sunshine,” said her mother, Elaine. “She was almost always happy and she tried to make everyone smile. She loved life and she always brought home her overall love for animals.”
