Coulthard
An accomplished horse woman
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Colleen Coulthard at Our Lady of the Rosary Hospital in Castor on Aug. 18 at the age of 43 years.
Colleen will be forever missed by her parents, Bob and Betty Coulthard; her maternal grandmother, Lillian Blumhagen; uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.
She was born on April 17, 1973 in Red Deer and spent her growing up years on the farm near Forestburg.
After graduating from Forestburg High School, Colleen moved to Stettler for a few years before settling in Castor until her passing.
At the age of two years, Colleen was diagnosed with cancer and was locked, unknowingly at the time, into a five year cancer research treatment protocol involving very invasive, intensive treatments. As a result of the rigors of this protocol she suffered a lifetime of health issues with frequent medical interventions.
Despite her many struggles she made a successful life for herself, keeping busy with various jobs.
She became an accomplished horsewoman and enjoyed many years riding, training and showing horses with walls of ribbons and awards to her credit. Colleen rode as a “robber” on Alberta Prairie Steam Train Tours which was so much fun for her.
Colleen cherished her horses and her cat Tee Cee and was so happy to lead an independent life.
We are so proud of her.
Special thanks to Irene Seth, an incredible help-mate and supportive friend to Colleen and her parents right up until the end; also to Susan Taylor, long time neighbour and friend to Colleen.
Colleen was a source of strength to her parents as she faced her end with grace, dignity and acceptance, telling us everything was all right.
Cremation has taken place and a private gathering of friends and family will be held at a later date.
In memory of Colleen and to honour her love of animals, memorial donations may be made to the S.P.C.A.
