Coronation RCMP charge youth with manslaughter

Coronation, Alberta – A 17-year-old youth has been charged with manslaughter.

On Oct. 14, 2017 at approximately 6 p.m., Coronation RCMP responded to a report of a male who was brought to a local hospital with a gunshot wound to the head. The 18-year-old victim, Jeffrey Smith, was then transported to an Edmonton hospital via STARS where he succumbed to his injuries on Oct. 18, 2017.

Coronation RCMP, along with the RCMP Major Crimes Unit (MCU – South), continued to investigate this incident as it was suspicious in nature.

As this matter is now before the courts no further details will be released.

His name cannot be released in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act. The youth was released from custody via Recognizance and will appear in Coronation Provincial Court on Dec. 8, 2017.
