Good evening friends, family, teachers and honored guests. I am Tori Canadine, this years valedictorian, and am privileged to be speaking on behalf of the 2013 graduating class.
First of all I would like to congratulate my fellow classmates for making it here and realizing that all of our hard work has paid off. Most of us have been with each other since elementary and its hard to believe that soon we will be parting ways. It seems like only yesterday we were little elementary kids trying to learn the alphabet and to count to 10, although my mom might disagree with the counting part.
Now, here we find ourselves at the end of three memory filled years of high school. This is where true friendships were formed, personalities were shaped and identities were becoming more apparent. We were beginning to figure out who was not afraid to speak their mind- Tarisa, who thought only of sports- Brandon, who always had a confused look in physics- Erin and I and finally which guys were still the most immature- Geoff, Mike.
Now with this chapter of our lives coming to a close, we are excited for the next beginning. We will forge new friendships, walk the halls of new schools and get to know new teachers. Remember to enjoy this experience as many say it will be one of the best times of your life.
This journey through school and life would not be possible if it were not for our parents. Yes, there were times when it seemed you were out to get us and that you had lost your minds. Looking back on these times now, we realize you were doing the best for us and molding us into future adults. You will always be there for us and we appreciate this more than you can ever know.
Next, we would like to thank the community for their support in making this special day possible. The words of encouragement we have received when out in the community fundraising have meant a great deal to us.
Lastly, I would also like to thank all of our teachers for putting up with us, and dedicating their time into making this journey possible. From our elementary teachers all the way up to high school, each and every one of you has contributed to our success to this point. You are not only our mentors, but also our friends and we hope you feel the same way about us.
In closing, I want to leave you with a quote that I think ties in with our theme.
“Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending”.
Thank you and have a great evening.
