In keeping with the Schools of Excellence initiative, Prairie Land Regional Division #25 is currently in conversation and partnership with the Village of Veteran, the Consort Lodge and the East Central Bulls in planning a Baseball Academy for the 2020-2021 school year.

The yet to be named academy has been spearheaded by Kevin Van Lagen, principal of Consort and Altario Schools, and will now be turned over to newly hired Educational Assistant (EA), Drew Boyer. Along with his EA assignment at Altario School, Boyer will assume the role as program director of the academy and will oversee all operations.

A native of Millet, Alta., Boyer comes to PLRD from Vimy Ridge Academy based out of Edmonton where he spent three years as the program director for Vimy Baseball.

In 2009, Boyer began his coaching career with the Edmonton Cardinals where he spent five seasons as an assistant coach on their 18U AAA team.

In his first two seasons, he helped lead the Cardinals to back-to-back provincial championships.

In 2013 and 2014, he was a part of the coaching staff for Team Alberta’s 16U team at the annual Prospects Series.

In 2015, Boyer took over as head coach for the Fort McMurray Oil Giants, helping guide the team to one of their most successful seasons to date.

In 2016, he was appointed the role of Technical Director for Leduc Baseball Association where he worked with all their rep programs and helped in organizing their winter camp.

The following year, he joined the coaching staff of the Edmonton Prospects which went on to win the Western Major Baseball League (WMBL) Western division.

This past season he served as the head coach for Edmonton Expos’ 15U AAA team and is currently the head coach for Alberta’s Senior Women’s baseball team.

Between playing and coaching, Boyer has been to 13 national championships and has won seven provincial championships.

He played collegiately at North Iowa Area Community College (Mason City, IA) before transferring to Wingate University (Wingate, NC) where he graduated in 2011 with his Bachelor of Science in Business.

Prairie Land Regional Division is very excited to welcome Boyer and is looking forward to opening the Academy doors to young baseball players in August of 2020.
