Blackfalds RCMP Detachment S/Sgt. Ken Morrison and Sgt. Whitney Benoit told Clive council Jan. 8 that Clive is considered a quiet community with less than average RCMP activity.
They emphasized, however, the importance of community engagement and ownership including reporting suspicious activity to help combat criminal elements.
Increase in water rates
Clive residents will see a seven per cent increase in their water, sewer and garbage rates this year, during their regular meeting Jan. 8, after council approved the increase.
The base rate is increased to $105.95 every two months from $100.50 last year. This means the average homeowner will be paying about $142.53 every two months. Mirror’s base rate is $25.32 and Alix’s is $183.
Request to allow more cats
Debby Hunter asked council to consider increasing the maximum number of cats allowed per residence from three to four if the residence doesn’t have any dogs. After the presentation council discussed the issue but no motion was put on the table.
CAO report
Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Carla Kenney, in her report to council said Clive was hosting an Emergency Management for elected officials on Jan. 13 with 15 participants coming from Alix, Bashaw, Blackfalds and Clive.
CAO Kenney said the village has issued 68 dog and 12 cat licenses to date. In 2017 there were 164 dogs and 29 cats licensed.
Clive will join four other Parkland Community Planning Services (PCPS) municipalities to share the planning costs for PCPS to develop land use bylaw definitions to deal with the marijuana legislation by April 30.
