Castor Council: New deputy mayor appointed

The reappointment of Mayor Richard Elhard and the nomination of a new deputy mayor were conducted at the Town of Castor organization meeting on Oct. 28.

Coun. Trudy Kilner was nominated and appointed as the new deputy mayor of Castor, replacing the current deputy mayor, Kevin McDougall.  Mayor Richard Elhard will retain his title of Mayor.

Title change

At its regular meeting Oct. 28, Castor town council discussed several items, including a title change on a property donated to the town.

In November 2021, the former Castor Golden Circle Club gifted the Golden Circle Building to the town.

A recent review of town-owned properties revealed that the titles to these properties remain under the Castor Golden Circle Club’s name.

Administration would handle the title changes of the gifted property which is divided into three titles.

The estimated cost is $150 plus administrative time for paperwork.

Council approved the ownership change to proceed through Alberta Land Titles.

Crosswalks

In fall 2023, council asked administration to contact Alberta Transportation for permission to paint crosswalks at three points across 45 Street and Highway 861.

Administration has yet to receive a response.

“This is for clarification of where the crosswalks would be placed,” said Chief Administrative Office (CAO) Donna Rowland.

Council approved a motion to have administration resubmit the request.

Land sale

An offer has been received for a land sale of Plan 102 5348; Block 10; Lot 10 for a purchase price of $17,000.

Under the proposed conditions, the buyer must complete the foundation within 12 months, or the town may buy back the lot at 80 per cent of the purchase price.

Council moved to accept the offer for the sale of the lot.
