Castor Council: Declines attendance at municipalities summit

Castor town council reviewed several agenda items during its regular meeting on Jan. 27.

Council discussed attending the annual Alberta Municipalities President’s Summit and Spring Caucus to be held in Edmonton from March 5 to 7.

The summit includes discussions on topics such as municipal elections and policing and provides opportunities to hear from the Premier, the Minister of Municipal Affairs and the leader of the Opposition.

Council agreed the cost of $1,430 per councillor, plus travel, was too expensive and moved to accept the correspondence as information.

Facilities Agreement

In 2024, administration from the County of Paintearth, the Town of Coronation and the Town of Castor began discussions to update the Recreational Facilities Agreement which outlines intermunicipal recreation funding for operational and capital needs.

To move forward with finalizing the agreement, the council was required to appoint three councillors and the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) to negotiate on behalf of Castor.

Mayor Richard Elhard, Deputy Mayor Trudy Kilner and Coun. Cecil Yates was nominated.

CAO Donna Rowland informed the council that a meeting date would be set at a time convenient for all parties.
