Byemoor 4-H Feedlot and carcass workshop held

by Tulsa Smith
The Byemoor 4-H club kicked off the month of February with a general meeting on Feb. 7, 2024 at the Byemoor Drop-In Centre.

The hot topic of the night was upcoming public speaking. Following the meeting, everyone practised impromptus.

Our public speaking was held at the Endiang hall on Feb. 11. Kids with speeches and presentations participated.

In the month of March, District and Regional public communications were held throughout the East Central Region. Several of our members placed in both District and Regional levels.

Members had the option to travel to Vermilion on March 8 where the Provincial Multi-Species Judging competition was held. Several of our members participated and reported a great day of learning and fun.

Another general meeting was held March 11, which was followed by a feedlot and carcass workshop. Our club used the model carcass from Friends of Canadian Simmental for this workshop, which we comically attempted to put together ourselves.

We also had a presentation explaining the meat cuts and corresponding carcass parts. It was a great learning opportunity and very interesting to see where all the delicious cuts of meat come from.

Our club will be having our Mock Achievement Day in Byemoor on April 21 at 10 am at the arena where everyone could have a sneak peak of our projects. We have several fun and educational activities planned for the day.
