Business license fee unchanged

stettlerThe cost of running a business in Stettler will not be increasing according to a motion passed by Stettler town council on Tuesday, December 18.

The cost of a business license in Stettler will remain what they were in 2012 with no increase for the coming year. Administration examined the issue and presented their findings to council. Currently, there are 528 active business licenses in Stettler, with 399 commercial operations, 73 home-based businesses and 56 non-resident licenses. The total number of active licenses is up from 515 last year and 503 in 2009.

Residents may purchase a business license for $125 per year. Non-resident licenses cost $325 per year. The cost is slightly higher than the average in neighbouring communities. A resident business license costs $100 per year in Wainwright and $60 in St. Paul. Non-resident licenses in the same communities cost $150 and $600 respectively.

The cost of business licenses in Stettler have remained the same since 1999, when the prices were reduced from $150 for residents and $350 for non-residents.
