Three Hills’ Melvin Wright does not let grass grow under his … wheels.

At 88, this veteran fundraiser, complete with his signature red-dyed hair and well-decorated walker, participated May 26 in the twenty-seventh Jayman Built MS Walk in Red Deer’s Big Chief Park.

“What a great day,” he smiles. “I succeeded with my two-kilometre walk and it was my birthday! A great combination.”

With the help of a corporate sponsor and nearly 80 donors from south central Alberta, Wright’s efforts netted the MS Society just over $7,000.

Sunday was Wright’s fourteenth consecutive fundraiser for various causes over eight years.

The Jayman Built 2019 MS Walk involved 300 participants who raised approximately $60,000. Funds support research into the cause, treatment, and cure of MS.
