Beiseker RCMP investigate road rage assault

A male came into the Beiseker detachment on Jan. 5, 2024 at around 8 a.m. advising that he was just involved in a physical altercation with another male at the Centex gas station and he may have injured him.

Officers attended the Centex gas station and located an 80-year-old victim with serious injuries. EMS was called and STARS  was utilized to transport the male to hospital where he remains in stable condition.

Investigation indicates that the assault was as the result of a road rage incident that occurred on the highway.

After the assault, the suspect broke the victim’s vehicle window and stole his vehicle keys.

RCMP have charged  56-year-old Drumheller resident Chris Shearer with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, robbery and mischief.

Shearer was taken before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody with his next court date set for Feb. 1 2024, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Airdrie.

Fatal head-on collision
Drumheller RCMP, Emergency Medical Services, and local Fire Departments responded to a two-vehicle head-on collision on Hwy. 9 near Range Road 214 west of Drumheller on Jan. 6, 2024 at approximately 11:45 p.m.

It was reported that multiple injuries occurred and a vehicle was on fire.

Upon arrival of first responders, the vehicle fire was extinguished.

Preliminary investigation indicates that a pickup truck and a car collided on the highway.  The driver of the car, a 39-year-old male resident of Drumheller was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The passenger of the car, a 33-year-old female resident of Drumheller was taken to hospital via ground ambulance with undetermined injuries.

The driver of the pickup truck, a 50-year-old male resident of Strathmore, Alta. was taken to Drumheller Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
A RCMP Collision Re-Constructionist attended the scene to assist in the investigation.

RCMP are investigating the driver of the pick up for impaired driving causing death. This investigation continues.

Copper theft
An off-duty RCMP officer from Calgary was driving on Hwy. 573 east of Drumheller on Dec. 30, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. when he witnessed a lone male suspect in a gas plant compressor site whom appeared to be stealing copper wire.

Drumheller RCMP officiers were notified and responded to the area; however, before their arrival, the suspect left the scene in a white Nissan pickup truck.  Through collaboration with the off-duty officer, officers intercepted and stopped the suspect vehicle.

The lone occupant of the vehicle was arrested and taken into custody.  Officers located large amounts of copper wire, contraband cigarettes, drug paraphernalia, apparent cocaine, bear spray, fireworks and more in the vehicle.

Officers further confirmed that a break and enter did occur at the compressor site.

As a result, 37-year-old Bryan Burrill, a resident of Carbon, Alta., was charged with break and enter, mischief to property, possessing a weapon for dangerous purposes; possessing a weapon, ammunition, or explosive contrary to a Prohibition Order; possessing cocaine and contraband cigarettes; and driving an uninsured motor vehicle.

Burrill was taken before a Justice of the Peace for a Judicial Interim Release Hearing and released. He is scheduled to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Drumheller on Jan. 26, 2024.

“The company that owns the compressor site no doubt sustained significant damages and losses as a result of this crime,” stated Detachment Commander, S/Sgt. Robert Harms .

“The keen eye and involvement of the off-duty RCMP Sergeant played a key role in not only identifying that a break and enter was in progress but also in the apprehension of the suspect.”
