Bates

Frank Kinly Bates was born in Calgary, Ab. on Nov. 25, 1921, to Oscar and Elsie Margaret Bates.

The family moved to the Craigmyle area when he was 12-years-old.

When the war started, he was called to defend his country.

He returned home, where a couple of years later, met the love of his life, Amy Nixon.

Francis and Amy married on Jan. 28, 1951 in Hanna, Ab.

They bought a piece of land and started raising a family; there were four boys including Mike, Pat, Tim and Dana.

They moved off the farm in 1996 into Halkirk. Through the years their family grew to include daughters-in-law, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all whom

Frank and Amy loved dearly. Left to mourn his passing are his children: Mike (Sherrie) Bates of Gadsby, Pat (Elaine) Bates of Markerville, Tim (Brigitte) Bates of Santiago, Chile, Dana (Basia) Bates of Edmonton and Al (Karen) Hunter of Calgary.

Grandchildren include Laurie DeLeon, Lisa (Len) Greiner, Lee (Melanie) Bates; Casey (Jacquelin) Sayles, all of Gadsby, Kirby (Josephine) Sayles of Cremona, Angela Bates of Spruce Grove and Nicole Bates (Chris Dolan) of Cranbrook; Heather (Andy) Kohen Shannon Bates, both of Santiago, Chile, Christina Bates and Andrew Bates, both of Edmonton, Jonathan Bates, Jeff Hunter and Lisa Hunter, all of Calgary.

Great grandchildren include Faith, Miguel, Tyler, Derek, Jordan, Mackenzie, Sierra, Haley, Hannah, Sierra, Alexus, Kirby Jr., Levi and Austin.

He was also survived by sister-in-law Isabel Nixon of Stettler; numerous nieces,  nephews, other family members and many dear friends.

He was predeceased by his wife Amy, four brothers Earl, Vern, Ted and Cecil Bates and three sisters Ruth Thomsen, Betty Douglas and Virginia Bowdrie.

A funeral service for the late Frank Bates will be held on Sat., Dec. 1, 2018, at 2 p.m. at the Stettler Funeral Home, Stettler, Ab.

Frank and Amy will be laid to rest in the Craigmyle Cemetery at a later date.
