Basketball season kicked off

The Hughenden junior high boys’ and girls’ basketball season has started. The team roster for the boys is Evan Wahlstrom, Sasha Robitaille, Kijana Penley, Wyatt Ford, Trenton Small, Colby Laing, Carter Oxamitny, Julius Penley, Aaron Anweiler and Calen Sayer are coached by Kevin Elliott.

The girls’ team roster consists of Payton Manning, Lucy Lee, Hayle Dambrowsky, Chloe Sayer, Erin Johnson, Tasia Goodwin, Roma Mae Bugayong, Ardeya Goodwin, Mackenzie Ford, Novalee Ford and Courtany McKay and are coached by Ryan Duffett.

The boys’ first game is on Dec. 9 in Hughenden against Wainwright High School and the girls’ first game is on Jan. 6 in Consort.

Market a success
On Sat., Nov. 28 the Hughenden grad class hosted a Christmas market fundraiser. The 40 tables at the market included baked goods, embroidery, jewelry, makeup and more.

A visit by Santa Claus was hit for the children in attendance.

Leadership conference
The Junior High Leadership Conference took place on Nov. 27-28.

Twenty students from Hughenden Public School took a bus, generously funded by Newalta, to Innisfail Middle School.

These students took part in various activities that including relay races and inspiration speakers.

The conferences are designed to build leadership skills in students, which can be applied in their own school.
