Coronation Music Festival winners were represented well at the Alberta Provincial Music and Speech Festival on May 24 – 28 in Edmonton.

They included Ryleigh Bunbury of Castor in Music Composition, 12 years and under;  Dalton Steinwand of Castor in Piano Solo, Grades 5 and 6 and Summer Saunders of Coronation in Speech Solo, 12 years and under.

Richen Basig of Coronation placed first in the Speech Solo, 16 years and under class of 15;  and Chloe Shingoose of Stettler placed second in Girls Vocal Solo 12 years and under class of 25.

Andrea Benoit of Bashaw performed in Provincial National Vocal Solo Class;  Joe Brigley of Coronation in Vocal Solo Boys 16 and under and Musical Theatre Ballad Solo 16 years and under; and Alex Brigley of Coronation in Vocal Solo Senior and Musical Theatre Ballad Solo Senior.

Additional participants from Coronation were Aiden Kobi representing the Stettler Music Festival in Vocal Solo Boys 16 and Under and Ethan Richard representing Stettler in Piano Solo Grades 5 and 6.

Participants in the Alberta Music Festival are from all parts of Alberta.  Each festival can send one entry per class.

The Coronation Music Festival pays the entry fees for our student representatives.

All of our students did very well and were great ambassadors for our festival, said Marilyn Thornton, a volunteer from the Coronation Festival committee along with volunteer, Veronica Weber of Castor.

An interesting note was that Fort McMurray had just finished their festival the week previous to the fire and their students were all in attendance.  People from Edmonton helped to find music, places to practice and costumes.
