Bashaw RCMP in partnership with Fish and Wildlife Officers from Stettler, Camrose, Ponoka and Red Deer conducted an Education / Enforcement Initiative on Buffalo Lake on Feb. 11, making contact with approximately 170 individuals participating in ice fishing and winter activities on the lake.
Bashaw RCMP supported by Fish and Wildlife Officers took the opportunity to provide education in relation to Fish and Wildlife regulations while providing enforcement of Criminal Code and Gaming and Liquor Act Regulations in an attempt to deter activities affecting the safety of those on the lake and/or travelling on local roads and highways.
Officers also included enforcement of regulations designed to protect our current fish populations and ensure sustainability for the future.
This initiative resulted in addressing following offences:
(5) Gaming and Liquor Act Regulations Offences (Consume Liquor in Public / Open Liquor in a Motor Vehicle)
(10) Alberta Fishery Regulations – (Offences designed to ensure the sustainability of the fish population)
(2) TSA  – No insurance/registration of Off Highway Vehicles
Bashaw RCMP and their partners are committed to these types of initiatives  in the interest of ensuring the safe enjoyment of winter activities by the public on local lakes for future generations.
Bashaw RCMP encourage the public to assist by reporting activities of those  who choose to commit offences to the RCMP complaint line (1-780-372-3593) and /or through CrimeStoppers (1-800-222-8477) if they would like to provide information anonymously.
