The Bashaw Peewee Stars battled Lacombe Rockets in over time but suffered a heartbreaking loss in a shoot out.
Bashaw played against Lacombe in a Peewee tournament Jan. 27 and 28 at the Stettler Recreation Centre. Their Jan. 27 game ended in a 5-5 tie against Lacombe and they lost 5-4 in a shoot out Jan. 28.
“They couldn’t put it pass the goalie in the shoot out but they had fun,” said Bashaw Star Assistant Manager Jack Dawbin on Jan. 29.
Going into the third period Bashaw was down 4-2 but the Stars turned on the juice and evened the score 4-4.
“They battled back,” said Dawbin.
Neither team scored in the sudden death over time so they went to a shoot out and Lacombe won 5-4 to take bronze in B Division.
Teams came for the Peewee tournament in Stettler from St. Albert, Bonnyville, Millwoods, Stettler, Midnapore, Lacombe, Bashaw, Calgary and Airdrie.
“We had a great tournament with some great hockey,” said Alison Norman, Peewee Director for Stettler Minor Hockey Association.
Three divisions competed and both Stettler A and B team took silver in their divisions. Stettler C won bronze.
