Lausen, Leroy: Thoughtful of his loved ones

Written by ECA Review

Leroy Barry Lausen passed away on July 10, 2016 at the age of 70.  He is survived by his wife Barbara Burgemeister, two daughters; Cori Lausen (Michael Proctor) and Sheri Fecho (Blake); two stepsons Jason (Chantelle) and Les Burgemeister and three beautiful granddaughters, Courtney, Stephani Fecho and Morgan Burgemeister.

He is also survived by his sisters Dorothy Meadows and Irene Maaskant and brothers Bill (Barb) and Bob (Virginia) Lausen.

After a lifetime of battling obesity from carbohydrate/sugar addiction, Leroy was faced with escalating chronic pain.  A magnificent mind trapped in a failing body, he ended his unbearable pain and plummeting mobility through “unassisted dying with dignity.” With no other options before him, his was a well-orchestrated and carefully planned exit:  thoughtful of his loved ones and all others to the very end.

His wishes of dying surrounded by family went unfulfilled, but it was his hope that Dying with Dignity legislation will eventually help others in his same situation.
