Bain

Patricia (Pat) Bain was born in Castor, Alta. on September 12, 1928, to Earl and Elbra Slemp.

She grew up on the family farm near Fleet, Alta. together with her brother, Raymond (Bax), and sisters, Leola and Betty.

After finishing high school, Pat was a supervisor at Lanes Lake School near Castor.

She then worked at the Castor Drug Store where she met Patrick (Pat) Bain.

They were married on Dec. 31, 1956.

Together, they raised four children: Larry, Gerry (Zully), Angela (Wayne) and Brenda (Dave).

Pat was a stay-at-home mom, and her family was the centre of her life.

She was a fantastic baker and loved to crochet.

She was also very active in the community, serving as a volunteer for Meals-On-Wheels, the Hospital Auxiliary, and various charities.

She was a member of the original group who started the Opportunity Center, and later in life, also started the ‘Widows’ Birthday Club’.

She was a doting grandmother to her eight grandchildren: Nick (Justine), Ashley (Derek), DJ (Lizzie), Katy, Denise (Daniel), Monica, Luke, and Josie, and two great-grandchildren Brysen and Bodhi.

Pat was a kind and gentle woman, and a friend to many.

She was deeply committed to the Church; her faith was always a strong source of comfort and support.

She was an active member of the Catholic Women’s League (CWL) for more than 60 years.

She spent four years living at Castor’s Long Term Care, where she always appreciated the wonderful care she received from LTC staff and frequently commented on how happy she was there.

Pat was predeceased by her husband Patrick; her parents, Earl and Elbra; her parents-in-law Rose and Michael; her brother Bax; two infant children, Kenneth and Mary; her grandson Nick; her brothers-in-law Ambrose, Joe, Mike and Earl; her sisters-in-law Sister Vincent, Rita and Lucille.

She is survived by her children Larry, Gerry, Angela and Brenda; her sisters Leola and Betty (Dennis); sister-in-law Lilo; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; special lifelong friend Ardena Zinger and family friend Shaunna Mohr.

On July 4, 2019, Patricia Eileen Bain completed her earthly journey.

She will be sorely missed.

Rest in peace, Mom.
