Miss Hepp organized and planned an awesome sports camp for our Grades 1-4 students which was also opened up to the community.

This event took place daily after school during the week of Nov. 21 – 25.

Each day focused on a different sport including running games, basketball, soccer, baseball and hockey.

The junior high students went to Circle Square Ranch near Halkirk on Wed. Nov. 23 to an event put on by Castor & District FCSS through a grant they received for supporting the mental health of youth.

The day consisted of three team activities where students from both Theresetta and Gus Wetter schools were with their fellow grade peers and they had to work together to achieve success.

One event had the groups working together to balance, move, jump through and climb obstacles on the ranch’s low ropes course.

Another event was called the “Caterpillar Hike” and groups were tasked with working together to find their way back to the ranch building after being led into the trees while joined together by the wrists.

The last activity was a round of arrow tag which is a really cool version of dodgeball using bows and padded arrows.

It was a great day for working on the skills of teamwork, support, communication and overall just a really fun way to connect with kids their own age.

Fickle weather

November’s fickle weather brought some unforeseen challenges to many of our typical routines and events at Theresetta.

Championship volleyball tournaments were cancelled, the annual Remembrance Day service had to be postponed, and Christmas concert practices were reduced, due to cancelled buses.

However, the resiliency of our students and staff shone through, and we were able to overcome the obstacles to have a successful, productive month.

Volleyball finished

The volleyball teams completed a very successful season. Although the large CARA (Clearview and Regional Athletics) tournament was cancelled due to a blizzard, the teams were later able to compete at eligible schools for first and second place.

The girls’ B team played in the consolation side at Erskine, where they finished second.

The boys’ team placed second on the A side, which ensured them a spot at the CWAJHAA tournament (Central Western Alberta Junior High Athletic Association).

This took place in Ponoka on Nov. 19, where the boys went undefeated to win their second consecutive championship.

Mr. Fetaz stated that the skills, strategy and level-headed support the boys provided to all team members were integral to their success.

The girls’ A team claimed the CARA championship after a very successful season which also earned them a spot at CWAJHAA.

Their tournament took place in Bentley on Nov. 19 where they encountered some very competitive teams.

They played well and came home with a third place plaque. Congratulations to all our teams, and coaches and helpers – Mr. Finkbiner, Mr. Fetaz, Mrs. Beaumont, Mrs. Boxma, Nola Fuller, Kolby Renschler and Drew Bagshaw.

Remembrance activities

Although our annual Remembrance Day service had to be postponed until Nov. 14, it was once again respectfully and educationally presented by the Grade 9’s who were the emcees, and the Grades 5-6 students who prepared informative slides about local or related service members.

Theresetta students proudly take part in the local Legion Remembrance Day poster and writing contest annually and this year was no exception.

Miss Smawley was very impressed with the beautiful posters created by the elementary.
