Drumheller RCMP received a complaint from a local oil company on Aug. 23 reporting that earlier in the day suspects wearing masks broke into an oil site located south of Rowley which is located north of Morrin.
It was found that items including industrial products, tools, and a compressor were stolen. An investigation was initiated which included the collection and analysis of evidence and video surveillance which identified a suspect(s).
On Aug. 24, 2023 at approximately 7:10 p.m., Drumheller officers observed a suspect and the suspect vehicle in the Town of Drumheller. Eventually, multiple officers, including from the Drumheller General Investigation Section (GIS), converged on the suspect vehicle and a 34-year-old male from Linden, Alta. was arrested.
Investigators found that the suspect was bound by a court order with conditions and officers located amounts of illicit drugs including suspected methamphetamine.
Also located was an axe, a knife, suspected stolen property such as tools, and additional evidence.
The suspect was charged with possession of a controlled substance(s), break and enter, theft under $5,000 and disobey court order.
RCMP continue to investigate this matter and additional charges are pending. The suspect’s name is not being released at this time as Information has not been sworn. The suspect was released from custody and is to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Drumheller on Nov. 24, 2023 to answer to the charges.
