Angela Dawn Andrews
June 15, 1976 – Aug. 25, 2023
Angela passed away peacefully Fri. Aug. 25, 2023 at 9:15 p.m. with her parents by her side. She fought a brave, hard battle with cystic fibrosis (CF).
Angela was born June 15, 1976 in the Edmonton University Hospital at 9:10 p.m. during a rain storm. It has rained every year since either on her birthday or the week of.
She attended grade school at Gadsby and Botha and high school at Wm. E. Hay Composite High in Stettler, Alta. She was involved in the 4-H movement in both beef and handicrafts.
She moved to Camrose, then to Lethbridge. Angela was able to get her Hairdressers License and worked in Camrose, Lethbridge, Calgary, Banff, Edmonton and Stettler.
Her special man was “Roy,” a Bishon/Shih tzu dog. She would give him a mohawk and dye it blue. They were inseparable. Sadly he passed away a few years ago but is reunited with her now.
In May 2009, Angela was diagnosed with diabetes. Living with CF was fairly good until 2008 when her lungs started to give out. In 2009 she spent 70 days in hospital. We learned at her “Celebration Of Life” that the nurses on the ward would “fight” to be her nurse. They became her family. She was placed onto a transplant list for double lungs.
In September 2009, while in Edmonton for the workup and evaluation with her dad, the doctor came in and asked, “If she was ready?” For what! “We have a perfect match.” And they were.
She recovered faster than most patients. She did so well. The next five years were great. Then the tummy aches started. After being on dialysis for a number of years for her failing kidneys, she was told she needed a kidney, then her liver gave out.
Now on the workup for a double transplant, it was during this time that her health failed further and she was told she no longer qualified for a transplant.
In 2022 she fostered a lab mix from Mexico with a special friend from the Olds Dialysis unit. She brought Blakley home. They bonded so well, but he was too much for her, so she gifted him to her cab driver, Bob. She was so happy to see the special bond they had.
Kitty Kat was recently given to her cousin Brandon and his wife Danica in Edmonton.
We are so very thankful to the family who gave Angela the gift of life when they offered their loved one’s lungs. Please everyone sign your donor card and let your family know.
A special thank you to the doctors and nurses of Unit 61 and the CF team at Foothills Hospital. The care and guidance you gave was the best. A special thanks to Valerie for taking the panic calls and helping us all to get to the right places, appointments and a shoulder to cry on.
And finally, her last home, Red Deer Hospice. She absolutely loved it there. You helped her, guided her and loved her as much as she and her family loved you. Thanks for helping her on her final journey Home.
Angela will be missed and leaves to mourn her passing, parents Diane and Donald Andrews; brothers Robert (Janene) Andrews and Calvin (Janneka) Andrews; niece Adalyn; nephews Deagen and Xander; poppa Alfred Beauchamp; aunts and uncles: Rose Anne Diprose, Dwayne (Tessie) Beauchamp, Joanne Schatz, Yvonne (Terry) Haupt, Lois (Larry) Robinson; numerous cousins, great aunts and uncles and a host of special friends.
Angela was predeceased by her cousin Hayley Haupt, grandparents Melva and Robert Andrews, cousin Michelle Robinson and grandmother Isabel Beauchamp.
A celebration of Angela’s life was held at the Stettler Funeral Home, Stettler, Alta. on Sat. Sept. 2, 2023 at 1 p.m.
