Drumheller RCMP was dispatched to an assist EMS call at the Drumheller Institution on Feb. 21, 2022, at 1:08 p.m.
Upon arrival, RCMP was advised that the victim, David James Klassen, a 33-year-old inmate, was deceased.
Drumheller RCMP determined that the circumstances surrounding David Klassen’s death to be suspicious.
Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit has taken over carriage of this investigation and will be working closely with Correctional Service Canada.
An autopsy is scheduled to take place later this week with the Calgary Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
No further details regarding the investigation can be released at this time.
