From swarm drone demos and digital mapping to expert educational sessions, food trucks and special events, AgSmart 2023 had something for everyone.

AgSmart, produced by Olds College, welcomed over 3,100 people to the fourth live edition of the two-day educational expo focused on agriculture technology and data across the sector – how to gather it, and how to use it to enhance productivity and profits.

“At Olds College, we work very hard to be at the cutting edge of agriculture and technology in Alberta and around the world. Our annual AgSmart event is an opportunity for all members of the agriculture community to come together to our pool our knowledge and resources, to share our experiences, and really to strengthen and grow the industry as a whole,” said Todd Ormann, Vice President, Development, Olds College School of Agriculture & Technology.

“We are proud to have built a quality event over these last several years, and I am already looking forward to next year,”

The expo featured 42 educational sessions from industry experts covering everything from leveraging artificial intelligence in agriculture and regenerative agriculture and satellite imagery uses on farm.

The expo was a unique opportunity for producers to engage with the college’s Smart Farm & Technology Access Centre for Livestock Production-related projects such as precision spraying and predictive mapping.

AgSmart welcomed 114 exhibitors to the outdoor expo, and had several hands-on agriculture technology demos for people to experience, including Threshhold UAV’s swarm drone mapping, ride and drive of Claas’ Axion tractor and the COWGO loading system to name a few.

“As a producer, I find a value in attending an expo like AgSmart since it highlights all types of agricultural innovations and technology that shows producers how they can incorporate it into their current operation,” says Jason Lenz, producer & member of AgSmart Industry Advisory Committee.

Field Crop Development Centre (FCDC) hosted their annual field day at AgSmart on August 2 and celebrated 50 years of variety innovation. The FCDC crop plots were part of 30 crop plots included in the expo this year.

Plans are already underway for AgSmart 2024 taking place July 30 & 31, 2024.
