The first reading of the Community Standards bylaw has been passed during a Forestburg council regular meeting on June 21.
This bylaw includes additions regarding smoking in public areas. With the upcoming legalization of cannabis, there is a need to legislate smoking within certain distances where children gather.
Councillors will now review the bylaw and purpose changes if necessary.
Discussing the community standards bylaw created a discussion amongst council regarding derelict and unsightly properties in the village.
“It is all the little things, that make it a big thing,” said Coun. Elaine Fossen while discussing overgrown lawns, unshoveled sidewalks in the winter and various garbage on lots.
Administration informed council that if a citizen wishes to file a complaint, a complaint form is available on the village website.
