Adapt to climate change

The President of our Battle River/Crowfoot Electoral District Association [EDA] sends us updates by email on the various issues that the Conservative Party of Canada [CPC] is dealing with.

I got one on Wed. May 15 that was criticizing the Liberal Government on a climate change motion they wanted to pass.

According to the Liberals, drastic action must be taken now to save the world from human-caused climate change.

The Conservative response is that the Liberals do not have a climate change plan, what they have is a tax plan.

The Conservatives say they have a plan that will be released in one of their policy statements.

It will be a comprehensive plan to reduce C02 emissions without a carbon tax, however, they do agree that human activity is contributing to climate change.

What we have here is the pot calling the kettle black.

As I stated in my last column, the Conservatives have an excellent opportunity here to really set themselves apart from the rest of the crowd especially in Canada on climate change and demonstrate some real honesty to the Canadian public.

They know very well that climate change is natural and reducing carbon emissions will not change anything.

So for the life of me, I cannot understand what they hope to gain by continuing to beat this dead horse. If it is the conservation of carbon products that they are concerned about why not come out and say so?

The environmentalists, Trudeau Liberals, et cetera, keep talking about reducing pollution and they say it in a way that would make you think that the pollution is C02.

The world could grow a lot more food if the C02 concentration were two to three times what it is now. Modern science has been able to drastically reduce the pollution from the consumption of coal and oil fuels in the first world counties but that is not the case in countries like China and India.

Those countries, especially China, have a serious pollution problem from burning huge quantities of coal with old technology. That pollution has no bearing on climate change.

To listen to the critics you would think that Canada could solve China’s pollution problem by burning less of our oil.

Have you noticed that the proponents of human-caused climate change never mention the serious mess that is occurring in China?

They don’t mention this in their propaganda because if the general public were to understand that China, producing 25 per cent of world C02 emissions, is the real cause of increased C02 emissions, the public in Canada may realize that they are being had.

In the May 16, 2019 edition of the Edmonton Sun columnist Lorrie Goldstein wrote a column to reassure everyone that the world will not come to an end as the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report alleged.

What they were really saying was that the climate would warm up more than 1.5 Celsius above pre-industrial levels.

He goes on to say that if what climate scientists are telling us is true we are already on the way to catastrophic climate change.

Which climate scientists was he writing about? Environmental scientists try to convince us that climate change is caused by man and metrological scientists know it is natural.

Common sense will tell you the only way to overcome the negative effects of climate change is to develop strategies for adapting to the effects of climate change.

I think the powers that be are beginning to realize that regardless of the cause, it will be necessary to adapt.

The money being wasted on reducing C02 emissions could go a long way toward financing ways to adapt to the change.

You can’t change the climate but you can change the way you deal with it!
