Traffic stop leads to drug charges

Consort RCMP initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle in the Village of Consort on Sept. 14 which led to the investigation and arrest of Daniel Hamilton (38) of Consort who, according to an RCMP press release.
Hamilton was later charged with driving while unauthorized under the traffic safety act, possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine, possession of marihuana and possession of methamphetamine under the controlled drugs and substances act.

Manslaughter charge in fatal collision

A 32-year-old male was pronounced deceased after his truck rolled as a result of a collision with another truck.
An investigation by RCMP Southern Alberta Major Crimes Unit has led to a manslaughter charge against Daniel Wayne Newsham (45) of Delburne, Ab.
Newsham is alleged to have followed the truck being driven by Stanley Dick and perpetrated the collision which ultimately led to Dick’s truck crashing.
An interim release hearing has been held, and Newsham has been released from custody with conditions. He will be appearing in Red Deer Provincial Court on Oct. 14.

Theft of motor vehicles

Consort RCMP responded to a theft of a maroon coloured Ford SUV in Consort on Sept. 18, at approximately 1 a.m.
Subsequent investigation led members to a suspect in another vehicle at which time the unknown suspect fled from police.
Police later located the stolen maroon coloured Ford SUV near Highway 41 in Consort.
Consort RCMP attempted to stop another vehicle where the unknown suspect(s) evaded police.
Later that same morning three more vehicles were reported stolen in Consort.  Two of these three vehicles were located in Consort and one is still outstanding.
RCMP are looking for a 2013 white Ford F350, with Alberta licence plate RNP891.
On Sept. 19 Consort RCMP received another report of a stolen vehicle which occurred sometime during the evening hours of Sept. 18 onto the early morning hours of Sept. 19.  RCMP are looking for a 2008 black Honda Civic, 4-door, with Alberta licence plate PET586.

Hanna break ins

A person or persons broke into a fenced area leading into a storage facility located along Railway Ave. in Hanna sometime between Sept. 5 and Sept. 6.
In a separate incident, a person or persons broke into the front door of Bumper to Bumper also in Hanna, sometime between Sept. 6 and Sept. 7.
