The Stettler Public Library’s updated bylaws were presented at the Aug. 1 regular Stettler town council meeting for council’s approval.
According to the Alberta Libraries Act, both the Town of Stettler and the County of Stettler must approve these revised bylaws.
The most significant change involved the implementation of free library memberships for residents of both the town and the county of Stettler.
Stettler council accepted and approved the updated bylaws as presented.
The Town of Stettler’s regular council meeting of Oct. 17 was rescheduled to Oct. 24 due to the municipal election which takes place on Monday, Oct. 16. The Oct. 24 meeting will be the Organizational Meeting of the newly elected council.
A councillor orientation meeting, to be held jointly with the County of Stettler, is scheduled for Thurs. Oct. 26 at the Stettler Community Hall.
As part of the Municipal Government Act (MGA) Review process, all MGA related regulations have been reviewed, resulting in the creation of new regulations and updates to a number of existing regulations.
Drafts of these regulations have been shared with all Albertans, the first group of drafts being posted on Jan. 31, 2017 and the second group of drafts posted on July 24, 2017.
The resulting regulation changes will require all Alberta municipalities, to review and update their own regulations to make sure they are in line with the MGA.
This round of drafts include regulations under Governance and Administration, Planning and Development and Assessment and Taxation.
These regulations will be available for public comment until Sept. 22, 2017.
