Highway construction will not take place in 2016

Coronation town council

Aside from the Nelson Creek Culvert section of the highway, which will be completed this year, the remaining highway projects will not, reported Chief Administrative Officer Sandra Kulyk to council at their last regular meeting on Mon., Aug. 22.

The explanation behind this, as per the meeting notes, reads as follows:

“In April, 2016, information was received from Alberta Transportation regarding confirmation of plans to pave sections of Highway 12. At the time that the correspondence was received, the message was interpreted that this paving program would be occurring in 2016.

“Upon further discussion with Alberta Transportation staff, apparently there was a misunderstanding of the wording of the email correspondence we received Alberta Transportation was advising in the email that the Nelson Creek Culvert section would be completed in 2016.

“The email further confirms that the Highway 12, 36 and 599 paving projects were added to the provincial construction program budget in 2016.

“The major construction program budget covers the years 2016-2019. As per the information communicated, and as per the map that was presented at the meeting with Alberta Transportation when they visited Coronation, it has always been their intention to tender the paving of the Highway 12 section from east of Hwy 36 to 2 km east of Coronation in the 2017 construction season.”
