Hanna to support high school rodeo

Hanna councillors approved a motion to be a major sponsor of $1,000 for the Hanna High School rodeo as they have done previously in 2017 at their regular meeting on April 10.
The Hanna Big Country High School Rodeo Club is hosting on May 4 to 6 at the Handhills Lake Rodeo Grounds.
“Last year’s event was very well organized,” spoke Coun. Gerald Campion.
The funds will come from the Public Relations and Promotions category of the Operating Budget.

RCMP update
Corporal Trent Sperlie of the Hanna detachment joined council to give a quarterly update. Cpl. Sperlie said that property crime is a main concern, this included rural and vehicle theft.
He shared that education is a focus of the detachment, adding that 99 per cent of rural vehicle thefts the keys were left in the vehicle.

Fire department report
The Hanna Fire Department Fire Chief, David Mohl, gave a quarterly report including statistics and comparisons.
Fire Chief Mohl shared that there was a total of 24 calls in the first quarter, 11 in the town and 13 rural, most of the calls were traffic related accidents.
A provincial training grant was applied for and the Hanna Department received $20,000.
