Fatal collision on Highway 27

Three Hills RCMP responded to a two vehicle collision on Hwy 27 east of Torrington on Mar. 1.
A semi tanker travelling southbound on Range Road 252 entered onto Hwy 27 and the trailer was struck broadside by a westbound Jeep Patriot.
The lone occupant of the Jeep, a 17-year-old male from Olds. Ab. was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver of the semi did not suffer any injuries.
An RCMP collision re-constructionist attended and the cause of the collision remains under investigation. At the time of the collision a thick blanket of fog covered the area.

Child pornography charges
Oyen RCMP have charged a local man with child pornography offences following a joint investigation with Medicine Hat ALERT’s Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) unit.
On Feb. 28, Oyen RCMP were contacted by a parent of a young female who had located concerning messages between her daughter and an adult male on her daughter’s cell phone.
On March 5, members of the ICE unit and Oyen RCMP arrested Austin Palmer, 18, and executed a search warrant at his Oyen residence.
During the search, a number of electronic devices were seized; child pornography images were found during a forensic preview.
Palmer has been remanded into custody and faces charges of: luring a child (x2); possession, accessing and distributing of child pornography; and failing to comply with a probation order.
Palmer is scheduled to appear in Medicine Hat Provincial Court on March 20, 2018.

Arrest five for trafficking
Everyday, RCMP gather intelligence and analytics on criminals involved in the drug trade as part of our crime reduction strategies, and we are bringing the weight of that knowledge to our investigations.
Between Feb. 21, and March 9, 2018, Consort RCMP along with the assistance of Edmonton ALERT conducted an initiative targeting drug trafficking in and around the Consort area.
Five people were arrested and police seized cocaine, methamphetamine and MDMA (ecstasy).
Kyle John Walker, (30) of Consort was charged with trafficking of a controlled substance (x2).
Joshua Thiabult, (39) of Consort was charged with trafficking of a controlled substance, possession of property obtained by crime, breach of an undertaking.
Niomi Grautefestert, (31) of Coronation was charged with trafficking of a controlled substance (x3), possession of property obtained by crime (x3).
They were released from custody after a judicial hearing and will be appearing in Stettler Provincial Court on March 22, 2018.
Cynthia Anne Sinclair, (37) of Consort was charged with trafficking of a controlled substance (x3), possession of property obtained by crime, breach of an recognizance (x6).
She was released from custody after a judicial hearing and will be appearing in Coronation Provincial Court on April 13, 2018.
Adrian Harty, (39) of Consort was charged with trafficking of a controlled substance (x3), possession of property obtained by crime (x3).
He was remanded into custody after a judicial hearing and will be appearing in Red Deer Provincial Court on March 19, 2018.

Convicted for string of break-ins
David James Stewart (37 ) of Newbrook, Ab. has been sentenced one year in prison after being found guilty for a string of break and enters to businesses in the towns of Coronation and Castor on April 12, 2017.
The businesses, which sustained significant damage during entry, were targeted primarily for cigarettes and lottery tickets.
A police investigation that included DNA evidence led to charges against Stewart.
Stewart was found guilty in Coronation Provincial Court on March 9, 2018.
Newbrook, Ab. is a hamlet in Thorhild County, northeast of Edmonton.
